Paul Bodden
Born in New York, NY
Lives & works in New York, NY
Paul Bodden (aka, Paul Ross, and Paul Bryen-Ross) is an artist who works in mixed-media assemblage and collage in his native New York City using acrylic media, paper, fabric, cardboard, canvas, wood, among other materials, including needle and thread. He is a Gay man (he-him-his) who has lived in the Chelsea neighborhood for a great many years.
From an early age, under the guidance of his mother and his uncle, the artist John W. Wilson, Paul made drawings, paintings and puppets, including hand puppets and marionettes. His grandmother and great aunts encouraged him by providing fabric samples from their garment industry studios and teaching him to use a needle and thread.
With very little formal fine art training, Paul began creating paintings and silkscreen prints while still in college. He also pursued acting, studying for many years with the actor, writer, and teacher, E. Katherine Kerr. It was through her classes and workshops that he began writing and composing. He studied music theory and composition at the Mannes School of Music.
